Privacy statement

Research Data Nederland (RDNL) values your privacy. This privacy statement explains what personal data RDNL collects, how it is processed and for what purpose.

About RDNL
RDNL is a partnership of 4TU.ResearchData, Data Archiving and Networked Services (DANS), the Dutch Techcentre for Life Sciences (DTL), and SURF. The mission of this national coalition of data service providers and expertise networks is to promote the implementation and sustainability of FAIR research data in the Netherlands.

Privacy policy
RDNL wants to ensure everyone whose personal data is processed that the processing is done carefully and lawfully. This is the RDNL partners’ shared responsibility. Each RDNL partner processes personal data in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the resulting privacy rules.

Processed personal data
RDNL will only process personal data if and when this is necessary for a specific purpose. The purpose determines what personal data must be processed; no more than the necessary data will be requested. For the purposes of RDNL the following personal data are usually processed: name, address, place of residence, email address, organization name, telephone number.

Purposes
Depending on your participation, RDNL will process your personal data for providing courses and organizing events. In addition, your data is processed to communicate with you on social media and by email, post, or telephone.

Basis
RDNL will only process your personal data if there is a lawful basis. Depending on the purpose, your data will be processed because:

  • you have given your consent;
  • it is necessary in order to perform an agreement concluded with you;
  • it is necessary to comply with a legal obligation;
  • it is necessary to protect your vital interests;
  • it concerns a task in the public interest;
  • RDNL has a legitimate interest in doing so.

If RDNL processes personal data on the basis of your consent, you will always have the opportunity to withdraw your consent.

Security of your personal data
RDNL will secure your personal data to prevent misuse of and unauthorized access to it. When collecting or transferring sensitive information, the RDNL website is secured by various means including Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) encryption. SSL encryption renders the information unreadable to unauthorized persons. This security measure is enabled when you see the unbroken key or closed lock symbol at the bottom of your browser window or next to the website’s URL in the address bar.

Retention period of your personal data
In principle, personal data is not retained longer than necessary to achieve the purpose for which it is collected. In cases involving archiving in the public interest, scientific or historical research, or statistical purposes, personal data may be stored for a longer period of time. If this is the case, RDNL will take appropriate technological and organizational GDPR-compliant measures to protect your rights.

Provision to third parties
RDNL will only provide your personal data to third parties if there is a legal obligation or basis to do so, as referred to in Article 6 of the GDPR. 

Third-party websites
This privacy statement does not apply to third-party websites linked to our website. You are advised to carefully read the privacy policies of such third-party websites.

Exercising your privacy rights
You can submit a request to RDNL to exercise the following rights:

  • The right of access to your personal data
  • The right to rectify and/or add to your personal data
  • The right to have your personal data deleted
  • The right to restrict the processing of your personal data
  • The right to data portability
  • The right to object
  • The right not to be subject to a decision based solely on automated processing, including profiling.

Data Protection Authority
If you have a complaint about the processing of your personal data by RDNL, RDNL will be happy to find a solution with you. If this does not lead to a satisfactory result, you have the right under the GDPR to submit a complaint to the Dutch Data Protection Authority.

Changes to this privacy statement
RDNL may change this privacy statement. Changes will be published on the RDNL website. They will never be in conflict with the GDPR and the resulting privacy rules.

RDNL uses cookies insofar as they are necessary for the operation of the website and for monitoring its quality and effectiveness.
